The lore behind not seeing each other before the wedding comes from arranged marriages where they didn't want the couples to see each other before hand so that they could not back out of the deal if one of them wasn't attractive. SOOO since we know who we are marrying now and know that we like them already there really isn't a need to not see each other. A first look does allow couples to see each other for the first time all dressed up in their wedding finery however :) It gives the Bride and Groom a few moments away from all the hectic-ness of the day.
